More “See Ya Laters”

I drove to coffee today to meet a friend who I knew was going to tell me she was moving. I was preparing my heart for that conversation. They were offered a job in another state and God is taking them on another journey. The funny thing is that we only met about 8 months ago and I feel like I’ve known her for years. Have you ever experienced that? We have many things in common, infertility, open adoption, losing a baby, college ministry and similar personalities. It’s crazy really. I feel like God put us in each others lives at just the right time and I’m so thankful for it. But lets be honest, I hate good-byes and I feel like that’s a pretty constant thing for me. Being in ministry means that there are always good-byes. We invest in students and they leave in a few years, we invest in team members and God moves them or us to new places, we make friends through church or our kids school and they move on. Life is full of moving on.

All I know is that God created us to be in relationship with others and no matter how often I have to say good-bye or see ya later, it’s worth it. He puts people in our lives for seasons and I’m thankful for the blessing that they are.

I think I tried to sip my coffee as slowly as I could today. Knowing that when I hit the bottom of my cup my sweet friend would get up and go and we’d have to say our “see ya laters.” My Portland life definitely won’t be the same without her or our weekly play dates.
