Celebrating 11 Years!

Thirteen years ago I drove a long 7 hour drive, all by myself, in fear and trepidation really, crying for a good part of it because I didn’t want to go. I didn’t want to spend my summer in Idaho on a summer missions project, I mean what a ridiculous place to spend a summer. So on that long drive I had many words with God but I knew one thing, I was going because He wanted me to. And I’m so glad I did. That summer was life changing for many reasons, but one of the biggest life changers was meeting Matt.

Who knew when we first met where we would end up. Who knew the boy who talked highly of the women in his family would one day  become my incredible husband, adoring me and treasuring me like I never thought I deserved. Who knew the boy who was hesitant to become a dad because he didn’t grow up with one in the house would become the most wonderful, devoted father to my children. Who knew the boy who bleached his hair blonde that summer would one day be coloring mine every 6 weeks for the rest of his days (yes, he’s that amazing). We never could have guessed going into that summer that it was going to be so life changing.

We celebrated 11 years of marriage this weekend. Thanks to my parents taking care of the kids we had an amazing day and a half away to just celebrate us, reminisce and be thankful for all that has happened in our sweet marriage. We were blessed with two nights free in the Hilton downtown, free breakfast, free movie, an amazing dinner, time to nap, workout, and just enjoy one another. One of our favorite things to do is remember all of our anniversary celebrations. The funny thing is that I can remember every meal but one that we’ve had on our anniversary celebrations. I remember it vividly. What does that tell you about me and how I love food?!

Who knew that this past year would be one of our most challenging yet. With health problems, surgery, housing problems galore, extended family stress, and a challenging ministry there were times we were at our breaking points. One thing remained though, God is steadfast and faithful and that allowed us to stay steadfast and faithful. If I would have known all the bridges we would have had to cross in the last 11 years I don’t know that I would have agreed to take on some of the challenges. I’m so thankful that God gave me an amazing man to journey it all with. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Thanks for an amazing 11 years Matt!
